Just a few minutes later, Bruno Fernandes also made Sanchez work hard to push the ball away. The middle of the first half was quite tense as both teams committed many fouls and players were lying on the pitch continuously. It wasn’t until the second half of the half that real opportunities returned.

Enciso missed a rather unfortunate shot after Mitoma’s effort. In the last 5 minutes, MU accelerated and had continuous clear-cut chances. Unfortunately, Bruno Fernandes, Martial or Eriksen were unable to beat goalkeeper Sanchez. The two teams left the pitch after the first 45 minutes without either team scoring.

At the start of the second half, Brighton launched a relentless attack but De Gea had some outstanding reflexes. In the following minutes, MU regained the upper hand and kept pressing. However, their strikers were unable to beat goalkeeper Sanchez.

After 90 minutes, neither team scored. The match had to go into extra time. Both teams were exhausted, so clear-cut chances slipped away from the players’ feet. After 120 minutes, both teams had failed to score and it was necessary to go to a penalty shootout to determine the winner.

The first 6 shots of both MU and Brighton were successful. In the 7th penalty, March sent the ball into the sky and Lindelof successfully seized the opportunity to end the match. Overcoming Brighton, MU earned a spot in the FA Cup final against Man City on June 3.
