Reece James’s father discusses his son’s desire to represent Chelsea amid Real Madrid ‘potential move’

Reece James has been linked with a summer transfer to Real Madrid, but his father Nigel says he wishes to remain at Chelsea and replace Cesar Azpilicueta as captain.

Reece James desires to become the new Chelsea captain, despite Real Madrid’s interest.

The father of the England fullback, Nigel, has revealed that the fan favorite wishes to captain ‘his club’ under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. It is believed that the Blues’ morale has significantly improved since the former Spurs manager’s arrival.

Following the departure of a number of players, Pochettino has had a rigorous first week of training with a focus on team building. Nigel, the father of James, dismissed Madrid’s interest and acknowledged that his son would love to replace Cesar Azpilicueta, who has left for Atletico Madrid.

Nigel stated on The Beautiful Game podcast, “Reece is a top player, so I’m sure most clubs would want to sign him, but I don’t see anything changing at the moment.” He is a Chelsea player, so anything is possible unless Chelsea desires to sell him.

“If a club no longer wishes to work with you and wants to get clear of you, then you must leave. If they desire you… Since he was six years old, he has aspired to don the armband and captain the team. It broke his heart that he was unable to do so last season.”

Frank Lampard’s dysfunctional Chelsea missed out on the top four and the European positions last season, finishing 12th. Nigel added, “Coming off the field and losing contests deeply affected him.

“I’m certain it harmed many competitors. I cannot speak on behalf of the other athletes. “All I can say is that I know how agonizing it was for my son to feel his club…”

Last week, Azpilicueta said a poignant farewell to Chelsea after 11 years at Stamford Bridge. “I find it difficult to put into words how I feel. It has been incredible, and I just want to say thank you to everyone, because it would not have been possible without the assistance of so many people,” he said.

“What an adventure. Those memories I carry with me will endure eternally. This is my home, and I hope that everyone will return one day. I am incredibly proud of the unwavering affection they have shown me throughout the years. We hope to maintain this relationship indefinitely.

After 11 years, I’m departing Chelsea. I could not have imagined being here today, but I appreciate your hospitality. I’ve been extremely proud to defend this emblem both on and off the field. My existence has been spent here. There are so many incredible recollections here, both on and off the field.”
