Arsenal transfer: Farewell to 14 players, announced 8 new signatures

Arsenal will probably do a “major surgery” this summer, with the ambition to overthrow Man City in the domestic arena.

Coach Mikel Arteta himself admits this summer will be an “important” summer for Arsenal.

The Gunners came close to their first Premier League title since 2004, but ended up running out of breath in the sprint. Arsenal’s defeat against Nottingham Forest on May 20 officially helped Man City to win the Premier League title before 3 rounds.

Pep Guardiola’s side have set standards that Arteta has admitted Arsenal have not yet met. “I know we’re not at that level, but we have to find a way,” Arteta said after the loss to Nottingham Forest. Director Edu has reveɑled to Football.london that they have a plan to close the gap with Man City. In addition to “doing ideological work” with the players, Arsenal will certainly have a “major surgery” this summer.

Arsenal have successfully kept Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Aaron Ramsdale, while the Gunners Board have announced the new signing of Bukayo Saka.

Not stopping there, deals with Martin Odegaard and Ben White are also imminent. In addition, some recent reports say that William Saliba is also about to be rewarded with a new signature after a sublime debut season with the first team.

After that, Arteta will start thinking about downsizing. Granite Xhaka could be the first to leave the Emirates Stadium this season. Bayer Leverkusen have made an offer of around £15m for the Swiss midfielder. On the other hand, his partner Thomas Partey is attracting interest from several big clubs in Italy.

Kieran Tierney is another player who could leave. He has been on the bench since Arsenal brought in Zinchenko. Kieran Tierney is still a good player but doesn’t fit the style of play Arteta built

Like Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe has only a limited number of minutes to play this season. He was injured and almost left the best of last season. The young English talent could attract interest from a number of other clubs, but with three years remaining on his contract, the Gunners will demand a hefty transfer fee.

However, Arsenal will hardly make much money from Rob Holding. He had difficulty finding opportunities to play when Saliba and Gabriel played too firmly.

Meanwhile, Reiss Nelson is also nearing the end of his contract. The player has turned down many renewal offers and will most likely look for a new stop.

Other academy talents, like Charlie Patino and Folarin Balogun, are also finding it difficult to break into the first team. They can continue to leave on loan next season.

Nicolas Pepe and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have failed to make an outstanding impression this season. Arsenal will take a significant pay cut when the duo leave. Suffering the same fate were people like Cedric Soares, Nuno Tavares or Albert Sambi Lokonga.

In the afternoon, Arsenal are targeting Ilkay Gundogan and Joao Cancelo of Manchester City. However, their main target must be Declan Rice. The West Ham captain is currently for sale for more than £100 million. Some other people who are being watched by Arsenal’s board of directors are Marc Guehi, Moussa Diaby.

In short, it will be a summer where Arsenal’s squad changes quite a lot. This is essential to close the gap with Man City, at least in theory.
