Fans are very happy with Ten Hag’s choice of Man Utd’s first captain since Harry Maguire lost the armband
Raphael Varane has been named club captain by MANCHESTER UNITED before their game against Lyon today.
After talks with first team boss Erik ten Hag on Saturday, former captain Harry Maguire lost his job as captain.
In a tweet, the England player said, “After talking with the manager today, he told me that he is changing the captain.”

“He explained his reasons to me, and even though I’m very upset, I’ll keep giving it my all every time I wear the shirt.
“So I wanted to say a huge thank you to the Manchester United fans for all the great support they’ve given me while I’ve been captain.”
Varane has been named Maguire’s replacement for today’s preseason game against Lyon, but it’s not clear yet if he’ll keep the shirt for the rest of the season.
When Man Utd fans heard that Varane would be captain, they were very happy.
“Varane as captain,” someone wrote on Twitter. Corrrrr just shoot it.”
“Here we go, Captain Varane baby,” said someone else. United, come on!”
A third person wrote, “RAPHAEL ‘PROPER CAPTAIN’ VARANE!!!”
A fourth said, “Who is Varane’s captain? I had no idea. Happy to hear it.”
Man Utd will play their second pre-season game against Lyon.
Last week, Joe Hugill and Noam Emeran scored goals to help the Red Devils beat Leeds 2-0.
