David Beckham is an exemplary father of life off the pitch, making fans crazy and admired

David Beckham has vented his frustration with the Daily Mail after they published an article which questioned why four-year-old daughter Harper was using a dummy.

The irate father-of-four and former footballer posted his outrage on Instagram, taking a screenshot of the Mail’s story and arguing that they had “no right” to criticise his parenting skills.

Frankly, we don’t think David need have bothered justifying himself, especially given these examples of the star being an exemplary (and arguably the most fun) father:

David Beckham has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for a decade, and recently celebrated the landmark by launching a new campaign called 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund.

The new fund aims to protect vulnerable children worldwide from danger, and David explained: “Brooklyn and Romeo have seen me go on certain trips [and] I take hundreds of pictures.

“When I sit down with them and show them pictures of the children I have been helping or [how] UNICEF has been helping on the ground, they respond to that. The children will be getting involved, because I’m going to make them.”

While Victoria Beckham concentrated on creating her now-lauded fashion empire, David happily described himself as a house-husband and added that he doesn’t mind being his children’s chauffeur..

“I really am [a house-husband]. But I love it. I’ve been lucky, I’ve always been able to take the boys to school in the mornings and pick them up and make them dinner and things like that. So I do even more of that,” he said.

“I’m able to take all three of the boys to school and then I take Harper to her school for a few hours and then pick her up. I’m kind of like a driver at the moment, I’m always in the car.”

David and Victoria have always been keen to instil the value of hard work in their four children, and their eldest son Brooklyn got a weekend job at a West London coffee shop last year.

“We try to lead by example, by showing them it’s important to work hard,” said David. “That’s one of the key things me and my wife have always done, [both] before we had children, and now [that] we have four children.

“We juggle everything around the family because our main priority is the children – simple as that, and it always will be – but being hard-working is the best thing you can show children.”

OK, so perhaps he was coerced by wife Victoria, but David revealed how he accompanied his eldest son Brooklyn – then 14 – on his first ever date.

Chatting to James Corden on The Late Late Show (with son Brooklyn in the audience), the sports star recalled: “On his first date – Victoria was in London – it was Valentine’s day, and he said he’d love to take this girl for dinner. I said ‘OK great’ and I called Victoria and she replied ‘Really?’

“So Victoria said, ‘OK make sure you take him, and make sure you sit in the restaurant’. And I was like, ‘Really, you’re going to make me do that?” and she said, ‘Yes, that’s the only way I’m letting him go’.

“So we took him to a sushi restaurant, and he sat at the bar and I sat five tables back. My daughter is 4 years old but when she turns 14, I’ll be closer than that!”

We don’t doubt it.

Both David and Victoria Beckham were on hand to cheer son Romeo on as he completed the London Mini Marathon earlier this year.

The 12-year-old took part in the three-mile race for those aged between 11 and 17, raising £6,000 for UNAIDS and 7 Fund, the charity supported by Beckham.

The proud family – including brothers Brooklyn and Cruz but minus Harper – all sported t-shirts emblazoned with ‘Team Romeo’.

After previously shouting “I love you” at Brooklyn after dropping him off at school, David dusted off his credentials as an embarrassing dad once more when he ‘instabombed’ Brooklyn’s video.

“So it’s my mum’s birthday today. I just reached a million followers,” Brooklyn began – but before could continue, his father popped up behind him and says: “I’ve got 52 (million)”, before disappearing again.

“Oh”, a dejected Brooklyn replies.

David Beckham and sons Romeo and Cruz got a sticky surprise when they were covered in gold slime on stage at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards last year.

The star was at the ceremony to accept the Legend Award from Nickelodeon in recognition of his successful football career – and obviously he wanted his sons to share in the golden moment…

The day after David Beckham’s 40th birthday celebrations, Harper was on hand to make him feel a bit better after a “heavy night” with the addition of a couple of bows.

Forget football and playing for England, David Beckham proudly described his family is his “greatest achievement”.

“In my career there’s many things I’ve won, and many things I’ve achieved,” he said in a 2011 interview. “But my greatest achievement is my family.”

“What matters is being a good father and a good husband – just being connected to family as much as possible. Being a dad is more important than football, more important than anything.

“I adore children. I love the fact our children are part of both of us. It’s one of the most amazing things ever.”
